What Are You Wearing?

As the Golden Globes kicked off this past Sunday, it got me thinking about the controversy surrounding the question often asked to women, what are you wearing?

I'm not saying women have nothing other than their physical to offer to the world but the proportions that phrase had been blown out of was something else. The negative stemmed from the wrong point of view. At that time, prior to men not caring about masculinity and finally diving into the sea of creativity- god bless Harry Styles, women were asked because they took risks. They actually wore and still wear intricate and gorgeous pieces that make us want to know who created the look and where we can go for more inspiration to help us step out of our own boxes.

Can you really say the same about mens' looks prior to 2019?

More than that, this question allows for credit to be given where credit is deserved. These intricate and gorgeous pieces did not make themselves, nor did they style themselves. By asking this question, it allows for the designers, seamstresses, stylist and brand teams who worked endlessly to put the looks together to get the recognition they deserve. The creative minds from behind the scenes.

By answering this simple question, it allows for those responsible for the look to gain exposure and possible new clients. The time that goes into the details is tedious but worth it since this part of the industry can make or break a look- details bring a look together to define a period of time.

How can we forget the Canadian tuxedo worn by the dynamic duo, Brittany and Justin, or J.Lo's Versace dress? Exactly.

So, when the interviewer asks "what are you wearing?" it simply has nothing to do with the person wearing the outfit but rather the whole team behind the look who are just looking for a shoutout for their hard work.

Till next time, cheers!
