Gotta Get Those Receipts

August 15, 2019

This is something I have been thinking about for a while and really just need to get off my chest. I need to start documenting and publishing some sort of list that states what trends will be next because my god, I am on a roll. I have been right; I deserve some credit and recognition for this.

So far I have been correct about the following:

1. High-waisted shorts
2. Tying things around your waist
        - And with this, the person who asked why I was wearing high-waisted shorts and a plaid shirt tied around my waist sophomore year of high school, circa 2013, screw you.
3. Flatlays
        - In 2014, I was posting these types of pics left and right. Pinterest could never.
4. Jeans skirts
5. Overalls
       - Okay, with 4 and 5, for the life of me, I could not find decent pieces anywhere so I bought this strangely long jean skirt from J.Crew because nothing else was available. As for the overalls, it was fine; not my fav but it was slim pickings out there guys.
6. Backpacks
        - Now, this trend wasn't one I predicted would take off. Since 2015, I always just preferred using my little Longchamp backpack because I could fit more and it was more practical.
        - Fallraven backpacks, again, a brand I liked and a style I liked too that I did not predict tbh but here we are. It has now become a staple for VSCO girls.
7. Off the shoulder tops
        - The lines on shirts were slowly disappearing, you could spot this trend from a mile away.
8.  Tube tops
        - Again, slowly parts disappear and suddenly, a 'new' design has appeared.
9. Trouser trend
        - My go-to pant style back during junior year of high school. Boy was I ahead of this one.
10. Fuzzy heels
        - Honestly, once I bought these fuzzy heels from Nordstorm in the Spring of 2018, I had a feeling the 2000s were creeping in. Between these, the jean skirts, and few silk dresses that had made their appearance amongst catalogs, I knew the storm was coming, Lip gloss and all.
11. Hoops
12. Flare Jeans
        - This one came to me back in October when I saw one pair for sale. Once you see one, more and more start to trickle on in.
13. Headbands
         - What would the 2000 comeback be without headbands? Blair Waldorf is quaking.
14. Blazers
         - Although I have been saying the 2000s are coming back, so are the 70s, 80s, and 90s. We have created a fashion buffet. We have blazers to fulfill our 70s desires, neons for an 80s accent, silk items as the main piece for the 90s and accessories have and always will be claimed by the 2000s.
15. One-shoulder tops
          - We have taken away any form of a sleeve, aka the tube top, so now it is time to slowly rebuild. Hence, the one-shoulder styled tops that are slowly but surely popping up around a store near you.
16. Paperbag Pants
          - Now, this is my latest success story in the works. The shorts have made its appearance and I saw a pair for sale on Free People. Once you see one, the waiting game begins.
17. Mesh Puff Sleeves
          - This one is fairly new and I needed to make sure to document this because I have a feeling about this one too. Hello 80s, thanks for reentering the game.

Do you see this track record? Do you see this? Do you understand why I wish I had the receipts!

Besides riding on the high of being right, I enjoy being able to guess the next big trend. It's just fun. All of these trends have had their moment before, this isn't their first rodeo. But this is how the fashion world works; pieces are just continuously recycled and revamped after x amount of years.  Now that the air is cleared, I can rest easy.

Till next time, cheers!

Now What?

Adulthood comes at ya fast. One minute, you're in high school, the next you're packing for freshman year at university and then all of a sudden, you're an alumna. Who let that happen?

I can honestly say, I was never that kid who wished they were older. Ya know those kids, who were like, "I want braces," or "I wanna be in my twenties now." Well, we're here now and idk what they were expecting but this ain't it chief.

The best way I can explain adulthood thus far would be to equivalate it to WarHeads candy. One moment, everything is sour but then it becomes sweet.

Sour: leaving a state and town that holds newfound memories, leaving your friends who now feel like family and having everyone you love spread out all over the country.

Sweet: being back with family, back in my city, having a car (I cannot stress how happy I am about this one), and well graduating because let's be honest, this is a huge deal. Oh and getting a job you actually like- based on my previous posts, who would have freakin thought? It's a Christmas miracle! And with that, I digress.

But, just when you think life is all daisies and roses, you're hit with another burst of sourness that sends a shiver down your spine and makes you break into a small sweat. This, this unexpected hit is what it felt like when I realized I don't know anything and I will soon have to know everything aka taxes, insurance, bills, the list goes on and on. Idk about you but this truly sent me. My eye is twitching now.

Growing up, I was fortunate enough to be able to have parents who made everything look easy. Both of my parents worked fulltime, were hands-on in both of their children's lives, dealing with other crap while also doing everything they could- basically, moving mountains for me and my brother to be happy. Now, as a child, you don't think about the behind-the-scenes of what goes into making all of this possible, obviously because you're an infant. But as the years go on, as I am barely able to keep myself together, I have nothing but admiration towards my parents.

How? How? I truly can't even comprehend how they were able to do all of this. By that I mean this type of commitment is both mentally and physically exhausting. But besides that how will I be able to do this in the future too? I've already got the short end of the stick because they're both CPA's. Taxes? Check. Everything else? Well, tbh idk where they learned all of that but if you can understand taxes well I feel like everything else must seem like a cakewalk. As for me, haha the creative child who does social media, I am SOL.

Although my mom is a CPA and does my taxes at her accounting firm, I want to know what's going on. It would be a lot easier to just accept that she handles that portion of my life and move on but I want to feel like I have some sort of general understanding about what is happening. That said I have taken it upon myself to utilize what is in front of me. My dad is basically a walking Google and my mom, well she may not be a walking Google but she has other useful skills to bring to the table too.

As of right now, I am in the process of making flowcharts that explain what steps you should take to complete your taxes, insurance, bills, etc. It also explains what all of it means; there are so many fancy phrases that I personally believe are just completely unnecessary.

It honestly is v helpful so far. If this keeps up, idk I might go ahead and share it with everyone because god only knows how much me and my fellow Gen-z peers need this type of guidance.

Till next time, cheers!

Blooming Results

August 14, 2019

Where do I even begin?

To be honest, at first, I was on the fence about buying this product because it seemed a little too good to be true. After the first release, this beauty product sold out within the first 24 hours so even if I wanted to buy it, I couldn't. This said I had more time to sit on it and think about whether or not this purchase was worth my money. After reading reviews, the only negative I had found was that the package was smaller than anticipated and well, that's a lot of money for what is given which ultimately turned me off this product but then life happened. My skin had a moment and would not calm down from February to May.

For those who have known me for a while, you will know that I have been on a journey with my skin. I never had any issues with it until the second semester of Junior year of high school. I don't know what happened but all of a sudden I was experiencing breakouts for the first time.

Now, let me say this is not a pity party because as we all know there are bigger issues in this world but not having the ability to feel comfortable without make-up sucks. It just messes with your head and confidence because you think it's the first thing people will notice about you, which is not true (hopefully) but it's hard to get that thought out of your mind. Luckily, everything got sorted out and we were back on track until recently. I wanted to try new skin products in hopes of finding a cheaper alternative to the topical prescribed by my dermatologist. Based off of the tone of this story so far, I'm sure you can guess how this journey went. Poorly I think would be the best way to describe it. I found an ok product but it didn't truly clear anything up permanently.

*Also, may I add that as I've gotten older, this became more of a concern because I felt like acne was an issue only teenagers should have to deal with. Once you're in college, this shouldn't be an issue anymore, especially when you're about to graduate college. No Bueno to say the least.*

Then by this point, I had completely forgotten about the topical I used until I found it in my medicine cabinet this past June.

I'm so dumb sometimes it's truly astonishing. Anyways, once I started using it again, this definitely helped and yes, I did see a difference in my skin but nothing life-changing. The biggest difference didn't occur until I started drinking Body Bloom.

Guys. Guys!
I just- I can't even describe like I said before, how happy I am with the results. My skin has never glowed or felt this smooth since Sophomore year of HIGH SCHOOL. I am 22 right now, that is a long time and I honestly want to scream from the hills how happy I am with the results. Deep down, I was hoping for this and believed in Sarah because she also had a similar experience with acne but still, I had my reservations because of my past experiences. After using this product, I can tell she poured her blood, sweat, and tears into finding the best solution for acne-prone skin and God bless her for that.

Though I had gone out in public without wearing makeup, I can honestly say for the first time I am fully confident in my skin and how it looks. To the point where I don't care who I run into. As silly as it is to say- I'm sure others have been here too, but I never thought this is something I would be able to do. This for me was why I decided to purchase and will continue to purchase Body Bloom.

Now onto the other benefits that have come from this god-sent product. If you've made it this far, we are now friendly and since you asked, you're going to hear about my digestive system. Nothing gross or TMI but just the progress it's made in a week. I try to eat p clean and take care of my body. This said I did not believe I felt bloated daily or had anything serious like that but again, after just one week my body is living its best life.

As I had just stated, I did not believe I was bloated but after this week, I noticed a change. So in conclusion, I guess I was slightly bloated after all?

(Disclaimer: This next part is by no means a weird flex, just an observation about my body)

But I've noticed my stomach is flat throughout the day- you know that morning skinny feeling? Yeah, well she has decided to stick around for the whole day now. It might have been water weight but long story short, something was there, I have no idea what, but now it's gone? It's gone and I feel lighter than usual. This was not a result I was expecting or anticipating but I'm here for it.

Another side effect- that definitely could be a placebo effect or just Sarah's influence, is that you have the motivation of wanting to eat healthier. I drink this every morning with my breakfast, so by starting the day off on the right foot, you just have a positive mindset for the rest of the day. Now, I'm not saying to not indulge in what life has to offer but since you're feeling good, you will tend to opt for more quality meals to continue this feeling!

Moral of this post is buy Body Bloom. Your skin and digestive system will thank you for it later!

Till next time, cheers!

How to Make It Yours

August 9, 2019

(Published on Fashion 360 Magazine)

A wise man, who went by the name Yves Saint Laurent, was once quoted for saying, “Fashions fade, but style is eternal.” With today’s fashion, what fashion is and what it has become has altered with social media. These new changes come with both the good and the bad; though I do enjoy how available it has become due to social media, the biggest downside I have seen is people losing their style.

Hear me out. I am all for looking into and purchasing similar pieces influencers or celebrities have, especially when they post the link to the website, but there comes a time where you have to look at their clothes or new trends and say, “that’s not for me.” I have done this countless times. For example, biker shorts, no thank you. Bermuda shorts, 4th grade me says yes but present me has to pass. Mini sunglasses? I can only rock a big cat-eye. So on, and so forth.

Everyone is free to try new things, I don’t want to be a downer, but make it your own. There are so many generic pieces for sale but being able to tailor it to your own style and wardrobe is what fashion is about. Making it work for you and not looking like a clone of a million other people.

Also, just because you wear all designer pieces does not mean you have style. It means you are fortunate to purchase those glorious pieces but that is not your style, just a way of participating in trends. I'm sorry Gucci belt, but I had to make the switch to Fendi. You were cute until I saw this look a million times.

As I previously said, fashion is being able to take clothes and run with being creative about the color, style or way you wear it. It’s not a crime to like the same pieces or dress like someone you admire but there comes a point where you have to step back and ask yourself if this is for you or are you just trying to fit in with the rest of the world? If the answer is yes, well that is a whole other tangent and issue for another time.

For now, just remember if you like the tube top style, there are a handful of different variations of the style you can look into and buy to stay with the trends but also make it your own. Also, remember the alternation doesn't have to be grand! I love black hightop converse but the black seemed too bland.

So, I customized a pair of hightops; the outside is black and the tongue is white. A small but significant change that makes it my own! This same mentality goes for every other piece of clothing and or accessory that becomes the next big hit.

Never lose yourself to fit in, make it mold to you because odds are, people will love your look even more.

Till next time, cheers!

Quick Guide To The Colors of Fall 2019

At WWD MAGIC this past February, the main Fall Pantone colors consisted of Aspen Gold, Sweet Lilac, Living Coral, Jester Red, Fiesta Red, Pepper Stem. In other words, a toned-down yellow and or neutrals, purple, pink, bright and dark red, and deep green.

Other honorable mentions include Pink Peacock, Princess Blue, Toffee, Mango Mojito, Turmeric, Terrarium Moss, Soybean, Eclipse, Sweet Corn, and Brown Granite. But, that’s If you want to get specific.

Between the main and honorable mentions, these are the colors you will be seeing or have probably been exposed to thus far. Now, here’s the main question everyone must be thinking, who picks these colors and why have these colors been chosen?

At the Pantone Color Institute, the Executive Director Leatrice Eiseman is the mind behind the color of the year and has been for the past 13 years. During her seminar at MAGIC, she dove into how the ocean has been this year's inspiration. Deep in the sea, there are various layers and color variations amongst those layers. Closer to the surface, there are neutral tones, while deeper down, there are bright neon-like colors, hence where the brighter colors come into play. In addition to Eiseman’s explanation, I personally also believe the current style also plays into why the neon colors are having a moment.

Colors are dependent upon the inspiration behind each seasons clothing style. Now, it may seem as though these colors are ‘in’ currently and have been in this past summer. I mean, how are these bright colors considered for a fall palette one may ask? Well, again, I am not sure if you have noticed but vintage pieces from the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s have also been having a moment. This said these time eras were known for bright colors no matter the season! So, with these looks being recycled and having a comeback, the colors have too. The shades have just been updated!

Each year, the color may change, as well as the inspiration but note this, inspiration is all around us. Though this is cheesy, it is true. For example, the ocean was this year's inspiration and it has been around since the beginning of time!

Understand that it doesn’t take a unique or odd object or place to spark inspiration amongst you. Inspiration stems from having the ability to take something ordinary, thinking of it in a new light and finding its other meaning and then boom, you have a new spark of inspiration!

Till next time, cheers!
